Lower Primary School Curriculum at Mercy Boarding Comprehensive School

We warmly welcome learners to Grade 1, a key transition class where they begin their journey in primary education.
We help them adjust to the primary environment, familiarizing them with essential areas such as the toilets, dining hall, and playing field.
Learners are introduced to the learning areas covered in lower primary classes.
Independence is encouraged, and students are taught the use of polite language, such as saying "sorry" and "please."
Christian values are emphasized through the teaching of sharing and weekly participation in PPI (Pastoral Program Instruction) on Fridays.
Motivational speakers are invited termly to address learners on topics related to education, spiritual growth, and social life.

We assess learners' reading skills, focusing on reading sounds, and provide additional support in areas where they struggle.
Students are taught how to copy short notes from the board, as well as improve their speed in both copying and reading.
They learn to take care of their personal belongings (books, sweaters, bags, pencils) and school properties.
From an early age, learners are trained to do assessments independently, without teacher guidance.
In Grade 3, they sit for the CBC (Competency-Based Curriculum) assessment test, which qualifies them for an assessment number.
Upon completion of the Grade 3 curriculum, learners graduate to Grade 4.

Health Screenings: Regular health screenings are conducted for all students to monitor their physical well-being and identify any health concerns early on.
Hygiene Practices : We promote good hygiene practices among students, including handwashing, respiratory etiquette throughout the school.
Illness Response: In the event of illness, we have protocols in place for students to receive appropriate care and for notifying parents.

Emergency Preparedness: Our school has a comprehensive emergency preparedness plan, including evacuation procedures, fire drills, and safety training for staff and students.
Secure Campus : The school premises are monitored with security personnel and surveillance systems to ensure a secure environment for all students and staff.
Illness Response: We ensure that all school transportation follows safety regulations, with trained drivers and regular vehicle maintenance.

Peer Support Programs: We promote a culture of kindness and support through peer mentorship programs, where older students assist younger ones in adjusting to school life and developing social skills.
Parental Involvement : We encourage parents to be actively involved in their child's well-being by participating in school activities and maintaining open communication with teachers and staff.
