Lower Primary School Curriculum at Mercy Boarding Comprehensive School
- We warmly welcome learners to Grade 1, a key transition class where they begin their journey in primary education.
- We help them adjust to the primary environment, familiarizing them with essential areas such as the toilets, dining hall, and playing field.
- Learners are introduced to the learning areas covered in lower primary classes.
- Independence is encouraged, and students are taught the use of polite language, such as saying "sorry" and "please."
- Christian values are emphasized through the teaching of sharing and weekly participation in PPI (Pastoral Program Instruction) on Fridays.
- Motivational speakers are invited termly to address learners on topics related to education, spiritual growth, and social life.
- We assess learners' reading skills, focusing on reading sounds, and provide additional support in areas where they struggle.
- Students are taught how to copy short notes from the board, as well as improve their speed in both copying and reading.
- They learn to take care of their personal belongings (books, sweaters, bags, pencils) and school properties.
- From an early age, learners are trained to do assessments independently, without teacher guidance.
- In Grade 3, they sit for the CBC (Competency-Based Curriculum) assessment test, which qualifies them for an assessment number.
- Upon completion of the Grade 3 curriculum, learners graduate to Grade 4.
